Shelby Young was written between July of 2004 and July of 2005.  As corny as it sounds, I got the intial idea for the story in a dream. When I awoke, I jotted down a basic outline for the story.  This was in 1999.  I intended for it to be just a short screenplay about a young girl, abandon at birth, who went through life believing she didn't need anyone.  I set the outline aside, and would revisit it from time to time.  It wasn't until 2004, when I was looking for an idea to write a screenplay, that I read that outline again and decided that this was the idea I was looking for.
